If you happen to be a musician yourself, this is a great market for you since you probably already know plenty of potential customers, but if you aren't there are still ways which you can tap into the publicity requirements of bands, and performing artists. $500 is a budget price for a CD cover and once you have some experience you can go as high as $2000 or more, and to shoot a CD cover only takes a couple of hours. It's always good to do CD covers because they look so impressive in your portfolio. Sometimes when a customer is over I'll pull a few CD's out of my collection and show them around.
Besides CD covers there are many other types of photography which bands and musicians need. Your basic publicity shot is similar to a model or actor head shot, but there are other types of photography which bands need regularly. Once you get tapped into the musician's scene, you'll be getting lots of calls since they do tend to prefer referals to the yellow pages.
In "The Photography Big-Business-Pack Home Study Course" I discuss the many ways you can make money in this market and tell you how to find the contacts and get the work.
